“Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals.”
The above lines are certainly true. Today’s youth is tomorrow’s nation. And today’s youth are our students. Students do pay a vital role in the society and how a society is shaped generation after generations. There are many activities that students take initiatives for the betterment of the society. In the same way CU-NSS organises many events like that. Cloth Donation is one such event. In this event NSS volunteers donate old clothes to the needy.

The NSS Unit Cell of Chitkara University, Baddi organized a cloth distribution event on September 22, 2015. The event was organised in the slum areas of Pinjore (Haryana). About 8 volunteers took part in the event. The event was organised in the presence of President Punit Jain and Vice-President Ritika Goyal. The aim of the activity was to distribute clothes among the slum children and needy people, as giving away the things that can help other people always brings joy and happiness to us and the people around. The students of Chitkara University were notified about this activity a week ago and students were instructed to bring their old, unused clothes and put them in the drop boxes that were placed at many places in the University.
The volunteers were first told to gather under the CU-Bridge. The new volunteers were given information about the event. They were given guidelines about how to act in odd situations and how to handle them. They were given information about the whole strategy on which the event was going to work. They were divided into teams and were assigned their jobs. After gathering all the requirements at around 11.45 a.m. they headed towards the location.

Everyone reached the location at around 12.30 p.m. The NSS members called the slum children, their parents and other needy people from nearby areas and the cloth distribution process started at one common location. There was a lot of excitement among the kids when they queued up to receive the clothes and it was a delight to see their expressions when that excitement turned into a smile when they received the clothes. Same was the case with the men and women who were also present to receive clothes and the NSS members made sure that every person or child gets his/her fare share of clothes and that no one is returned empty-handed.

With this activity, the teamwork between the NSS members just got better and their bond with each other grew stronger. People watching this activity also learnt the lesson that giving away your things to make someone else happy in turn makes you happy. The volunteers were provided with refreshment after the completion of the event. The event was a great success as it not only ensured a positive feeling among the poor people but also among our volunteers. Everyone returned with smiles on their faces as it was a proud moment for them.
